After School Distraction

Wednesday I picked Aaron Ty up from school and while he had been looking forward to going out to the park after school, it was a bit chilly. So dadda had to come up with an effective alternative.

In the truck on the way home, we were talking about him joining a soccer league this summer. When we got home it hit me.

"Aaron Ty how about if we go to the toy store and look for a soccer ball so we can practice here at home? Then we can go to McDonald's for dinner."

That was the ticket and it received a resounding, "Yes!"

So off we went to Toys 'R Us. Now one never knows what to expect when taking a child (or a man) into a toy store. However, we did go with a specific goal - soccer ball. But Aaron also said he wanted "a secret surprise."

As we walked through, he saw several things he wanted, but was very good about understanding why we couldn't or weren't getting them. However, when he picked out two books, Thomas the Train Engine and Clifford, I had to give in.

At last we found the soccer balls. We went with a black ball with Spiderman on it. Mission accomplished.

Then we got to the video games. And we ended up with a Spiderman video game for his TV. It was so cool, how could I resist.

After we checked out, we headed to McDonald's to eat and play in the toobs. Aaron made a new friend and had a ball.

He was truly a joy this night and we had a great time. And just as much fun when we got home and started playing with the new toys. Aaron then informed me the Spiderman game was the secret surprise he wanted all along.

I think more evenings like this are required, both for father and son.
