A Family Space Mission

The Discovery shuttle mission was a special one for me. First of all, it was the first one I had really paid much attention to in many, many years. The reason for this was most likely simply complacency. I remember watching the Apollo missions as a kid and have many posters, books, and souvenirs from a visit to Kennedy Space Center.

The reason this one was so special was because this was the first for my son. It's a wonderful feeling, that I can't describe, to share something like this with your child.

Aaron would ask every morning what the space ship was doing and I would grab my laptop and we would watch NASA TV from the breakfast table.

We were fortunate to be able to watch the lift off, a space walk and the landing together as they occured live. The landing was extra special because all three of us were home and watching together in the family room. It really felt like an old fashioned family watching something important or at least family-friendly together.

We all prayed for a safe landing and are glad that the crew of Discovery is home and will soon be with their families and loved ones. Thank you all for moments that I will never forget and will cherish forever.
