Memories made in space

At 10:39 AM EST Aaron Ty watched his first space flight. We talked about it last night and watched Space.com's video this morning as the astronauts were getting buckled into the shuttle. I showed him pictures and basically explained what was going to happen. I told him about when I was a kid and watched many of the Apollo missions and about the first "man on the moon".

We went to the library and got a book that showed in kid pix how the shuttle lifts off and the pieces separate. He was excited and couldn't wait to see it happen.

We sat together and watched as Discovery lifted off and each of the modules separated. He was amazed ... and so was I.

I remember the excitement I felt as a child watching all the space missions and that feeling was intensified by sharing the moment with my son. There's nothing quite like sharing your favorite things with your child - last night baseball, today a space launch. This smile and this feeling may not go away for a while.
