What a weekend

It was a holiday weekend Aaron Ty, and certainly we, will not soon forget. By this morning, even Aaron Ty looked spent.

It all started Saturday with a day at Grandma and Papa's in PA. He had so much fun with them and his cousin Ally, we had a tough time getting him into the car to go home. Between chasing Ally everywhere she went, helping Papa collect japanese beatles and trying to tip me out of the hammock, he was more than simply amused. Somehow we kept him awake on the trip home all but the final five minutes as it was late and we wanted him to sleep at night.

Sunday, the fun began all over again beginning with church. Aaron Ty spent most of the service in the balcony with me as my Sound Engineer Assistant. We were blessed with some wonderful patriotic music and an inspirational message from our new interim pastor.

Then his godmother came over to wear him out some more while we went to a graduation party. They went outside to the "little park" in our backyard and he had a blast running her all over. I'm not sure who was more worn out when we got home, but he did take a little nap during quiet time. I'm sure Aunt Patti went home and took one too, though. He really enjoyed the frisbee Uncle Terry brought over for him. And he did amazingly well at catching and throwing it.

Then came Monday, the 4th of July. Yikes, what a day!

Kim left early to help with a series of holiday races in the community. After Aaron and I got up and had breakfast, we watched Liberty Kids and prepared for our Independence Day celebrations.

When Mommy got home, we hopped in the car and headed to the community parade, which included lots of fire trucks, police, horses, pageant winners, the local high school band, dance studios and, of course, candy. Even today, when asked his favorite part of the parade, he replied, "when they threw the candy!"

After the parade it was back home and time to pack up the car for Kim's family reunion. I'll let her go into more details on that, but I will add just a few notes.

First, it was HOT!!! But besides the heat, the food was good and Aaron had a ball. This time he was asleep within minutes of the ride the home. Actually, if I wasn't driving, I would have been as well.

After a brief quiet time at home and dinner, Mommy and Aaron Ty went out to play with bubble toys he won at the reunion. All of this helped to wipe him out and ensure a good night's sleep for all.

It was a probably our best family Independence Day weekend to date. And with Aaron Ty seemingly into the "United States of America" and its history, I'm sure they will only get better as the years pass.
